(Ft lane 2nd Lieutenant gets big surprise after completion of land nav course April 2018. His name tape and face have been blurred to protect his identity.)
In the early morning on 5April2018 a tired and weary team of motivated soldiers appeared out of the rugged forests of Oregon, lead by their wiley eyed and hopeful 2LT, armed with a protractor, compass, topographical map and clutching a Rite in the rain notebook with coordinates to land nav objectives. They were the last team to check in. In what was meant to be a one day event turned into a two and a half day struggle for survival.
We talked with CPT. Jack Jeinski commander of Bravo company 2-296, 63rd IBCT, he said this.
“The 2LT just came to our company last month and was commissioned the month before that, to see this kind of success in our junior officers is out standing. Knowing that he will now be promoted ahead of me and will be the new commander of our Battalion instills a sense of pride in me that I can’t begin to explain.”
For now the men of Bravo company 2-296, will be honored and blessed to have such outstanding leadership in their midst.
And with a great company motto like BAD ASS BANSHEES! It’s no wonder why they remain resilient in the face of adversity.
Tell us your greatest land nav story.
